Calculate Mean & Standard Deviation (for Sharp EL-W531 series)

I have tested this on the Sharp EL-W531S and SHARP EL-W531XM calculators.

Take note of the following buttons:

  1. Comma , or (x, y) button

  2. CHANGE button

Step 1: Clear memory

Press 2nd F, followed by ALPHA to reach the following screen:

Press 1 to select ‘1: MEMORY’:

Step 2: Statistics mode

Press MODE:

Press 1 to select ‘1: STAT’:

Press 0 to select ‘0: SD’

Step 3: Enter data

Let’s consider an example.

Frequency 5 10 5 18 2

Let’s enter this data in the calculator.

Enter the first column:

  1. Enter 5.5

  2. Press comma , button

  3. Enter 5

  4. Press CHANGE button

If you do not get the screen above, clear memory (Step 1) and start over.

Enter the remaining data.

(Optional) Use the ▲ ▼ directional keys to check whether the data is entered correctly.

Press ON/C to return to the main screen.

Step 4: Calculate Mean & SD

To calculate mean, press ALPHA, followed by 4 and finally =.

Once done, press MODE followed by 0 to switch back to normal operation.
